Understanding Story Point Estimation in Agiloop

Story points in Agiloop are more than a planning metric — they represent the AI effort required to build your features. This article explains what story points mean, how estimation works, and how your estimates connect to the build process.

What Story Points Mean in Agiloop

In traditional agile workflows, story points are an abstract measure of complexity or effort. In Agiloop, story points serve a concrete purpose: they represent AI build credits, the computational effort consumed when AI agents generate code for your features.

Each story point maps to a set number of credits from your project’s wallet. Before you trigger a build, Agiloop uses the story point estimates on your features to calculate the expected credit cost. This gives you a clear picture of what a build will cost before you commit to it.

Note: Credits are consumed when you build a feature, not when estimates are generated. Generating and viewing estimates is always free.

Viewing Estimates

Story point estimates are visible at multiple levels across the platform.

Feature-Level Estimates

Each feature card and feature detail view displays its story point estimate. You can see estimates directly in the feature list and on the Kanban board, making it easy to assess scope at a glance.

Bundle-Level Estimates

When features are grouped into bundles, Agiloop automatically sums the estimates of all features within the bundle. This gives you a rolled-up view of the effort required to deliver a logical group of related features.

Project-Level Estimates

The total story points across all active (non-archived) features in a project are aggregated to give a project-wide estimate. This high-level view is useful for roadmap planning and communicating scope to stakeholders.

Credit Cost Calculation

When you are ready to build a feature, Agiloop calculates the expected credit cost based on the feature's story point estimate:

Credits required = Story points x Credits per story point

The credits-per-story-point rate is displayed during the pre-generation checklist before you start a build. You can review the expected cost and confirm before any credits are deducted from your wallet.

Note: If your account does not have sufficient credits to cover the estimated cost, you will need to add credits via the Wallet section before proceeding with the build.
