Credits are Agiloop's currency for AI-powered feature builds. When you use Agiloop to generate code for your features, credits are consumed from your account balance. This article explains how credits work, how to check your balance, what drives credit usage, and how to add more credits when needed.
What Are Credits?
Credits pay for the AI compute that powers Agiloop's code generation. When you trigger a build in the Implement section of a feature, the platform uses AI agents to write, review, and prepare code for your codebase. This work consumes credits based on the scope of the feature.
Credits are not used for other parts of the platform — things like AI interviews, spec generation, analytics, and goal tracking do not draw from your credit balance.
Viewing Your Credit Balance
Your current credit balance is always visible in the header at the top of the application. The wallet display shows your remaining credits at a glance so you can monitor your balance as you work. Both your account and the current project balance are displayed.
If your balance runs low, the wallet display will reflect this immediately after any build activity.
What Consumes Credits
Credits are consumed when you build a feature using Agiloop's AI code generation. The cost is calculated per story point, based on the work breakdown generated during the spec phase of a feature.
Every feature includes the number of story points and credits (in terms of cost) in the feature header. This gives you the transparent view of the scope before you devide to start the code generation. .
Note: Features with more complex work breakdowns (more stories and tasks) will naturally consume more credits than simpler, narrowly scoped features. Keeping features focused and well-defined helps manage credit usage effectively.
Buying Additional Credits
When you need to top up your balance, you can purchase credits directly within the platform.
- Click the wallet display in the header to open the buy credits dialog.
- Review the available credit packages and pricing options.
- Select the amount you want to purchase and complete the checkout process.
Credits are added to your account immediately after a successful purchase and are available for use right away.
Transferring Credits from Account to Project
When you purchase credits, they are added to your account wallet. You can transfer all or any amount from your account wallet to any of your project wallets. In addition, you can transfer unused credits from a project back to your account.
Agiloop Key vs. Your Own Anthropic API Key
One of the most impactful ways to reduce your credit consumption is to bring your own Anthropic API key. Agiloop supports two modes:
- Agiloop key (1.0x rate): The default. Agiloop handles the API access on your behalf, and builds are charged at the standard credit rate.
- Your own Anthropic API key (0.25x rate): If you configure your own Anthropic API key in your account settings, builds are charged at just 25% of the standard rate — a 75% reduction in credit cost per story point.
This means that for teams running frequent builds or working on large features, supplying your own Anthropic API key can significantly extend how far your credits go.
Note: To use your own API key, you will need an active Anthropic account with sufficient API quota. The key is configured in your account settings and applies across all your projects.
Viewing Credit Usage History
To review how your credits have been spent over time, navigate to your wallet area. Your credit usage history gives you a record of build activity and the credits consumed, so you can track spending across features and projects.
This is useful for teams managing budgets or wanting to understand which features required the most AI compute.
Tips for Managing Credits Efficiently
- Define features carefully before building. A well-scoped feature with a clean work breakdown will use fewer story points than a vague or overly broad one. Use the AI interview and spec phases to get this right before triggering a build.
- Review the pre-generation checklist. Before confirming a build, check the story and task breakdown to make sure it reflects what you actually want to build.
- Consider your own API key. If your team builds frequently, the 0.25x rate with your own Anthropic key will substantially reduce your credit costs over time.
- Monitor your balance regularly. The header wallet display updates after each build, so keep an eye on it during active development sprints.
