Product goals in Agiloop give your team a shared definition of success. By linking measurable outcomes to the features you build, goals help you answer the question that matters most: are we actually moving the needle?
What Are Goals in Agiloop?
Goals are measurable product outcomes that you define and track over time. Each goal captures a target metric or KPI — such as increasing active users, reducing error rates, or improving session length — and lets you monitor progress against that target as your product evolves.
Goals connect your strategic intentions to the features your team ships. Rather than treating features as the end of the story, goals keep the focus on the outcomes those features are meant to drive.
Where Goals Appear
Goals surface in two places in Agiloop:
- INSPECT tab: This is the primary place to create, manage your goals, both project and feature level. Goals appear alongside your analytics dashboard — including user metrics, sessions, and error data — so you can see goal progress in context with live product telemetry.
- ITERATE tab: ITERATE analyzes the goals you identified in INSPECT and provides recommendations on how to better achieve them. In addition, ITERATE also surfaces technical debt, keeping your improvement work in one place.
Creating a Goal
- Navigate to your project and open the INSPECT tab.
- Locate the Goals section and select the option to create a new goal.
- Enter a name for your goal — something clear and outcome-focused, like "Reduce onboarding drop-off" or "Grow weekly active users by 20%."
- Add a description to give your team context: what you're trying to achieve, why it matters, and how it connects to your product strategy.
- Define your target metric or KPI — the specific, measurable number you're aiming for (for example, a percentage increase, an absolute count, or a threshold to stay below).
- Save the goal. It will now appear in your goals list and begin tracking progress.
Note: Goals with clearly defined, quantitative targets are easier for both your team and Agiloop's AI to evaluate over time. Avoid vague targets like "improve engagement" — prefer specifics like "increase average session length to 8 minutes."
Editing and Deleting Goals
To edit a goal, open it from the INSPECT tab and update any of its fields — name, description, or target metric. Changes take effect immediately.
To delete a goal, open it and select the delete option. Deleting a goal removes it from your tracking view permanently, so confirm you no longer need the historical data before proceeding.
Tracking Goal Progress Over Time
Once a goal is created, Agiloop tracks its progress as your product metrics evolve. The goal timeline view shows how the underlying metric has moved over a selected time period, giving you a visual history of progress toward your target.
You can use the timeline to:
- See when significant changes in the metric occurred
- Correlate metric shifts with features you shipped
- Identify whether progress is trending toward or away from your target
Note: Goal progress is most meaningful when your project has active usage data flowing through the INSPECT analytics. The more data available, the richer the timeline.
Using AI to Analyze Goal Performance
Agiloop includes AI-powered analysis to help you interpret goal performance without having to piece together the picture yourself.
Within a goal, you can request an AI analysis that reviews the available metric data and provides observations about performance trends, potential contributing factors, and whether the goal appears on track. This is especially useful when you want a quick read on progress without diving deep into raw numbers.
AI analysis works best when:
- The goal has a clearly stated target metric
- There is sufficient usage data in INSPECT
- You have been tracking the goal for a meaningful time period
Understanding Goal Achievement Status
Each goal carries a status that reflects how progress compares to the target:
- On track: The metric is moving in the right direction and the target appears achievable within the expected timeframe.
- At risk: Progress is slower than expected or the trend is unfavorable.
- Achieved: The metric has hit or exceeded the defined target.
- Not started / Insufficient data: Not enough data is available yet to assess progress.
These statuses help your team quickly triage which goals need attention during planning and retrospective conversations.
Tips for Getting the Most from Goals
- Tie goals to features: When you create or prioritize features, reference the goal they are meant to advance. This keeps your backlog outcome-oriented.
- Review goals regularly: Build a habit of checking the INSPECT tab at the start of each sprint or planning cycle to assess which goals are progressing and which need intervention.
- Use alongside technical debt: The ITERATE tab surfaces both goals and technical debt. When debt is undermining a goal's progress, you can act on both in the same workflow.
- Check goals in INSPECT: Visiting the INSPECT tab puts your goals side-by-side with live user and session data, which helps you spot correlations between product activity and goal movement.
